This time let’s look at what all was changed between the Japanese and English versions of the Orange Islands episode " Bound for Trouble ." The episode has the usual script rewrites, of course, but this one sticks out because it also has a number of sound effect edits as well...? The write-up also takes a look at the brilliance of Masaaki Iwane’s animation style, characters being mean to each other, Pikachu’s gender, dub background music, and a whole lot more! Pikachu comic I can now focus my attention on the next Japanese to English episode comparison, " Misty Meets Her Match !" This episode is pretty heavy on the romance aspect (well, for this show at least) and so I’m sure a lot of people are wondering how much of that was in the original and how much of it was added in by 4Kids. Well, wonder no longer! The write-up also contains discussions about dub-only lore, challenges with adapting the Japanese language’s tendency to be ambiguous, and giant prehistoric kaiju and so there’s plenty for you to sink your teeth into. Discuss this on Facebook | X (Twitter) | BMGf Lyrics Archive: "Will" and "Let Me Battle" April 12th, 2024 Dogasu @ 23:17 JSTTonight’s episode of Pocket Monsters (2023) debuted two brand new songs: Will , the new opening theme sung by the South Korean girl group IVE; and Let Me Battle , the new ending theme sung by Japanese TikToker 9Lana. Lyrics to both these songs have been added to the Lyrics Archive . " Will " " Let Me Battle " As always, the pages for boths songs contain the original lyrics as they appear in the original Japanese, a transliteration of those lyrics into our alphabet, and an English translation. Pikachu" Revamp March 31st, 2024 Dogasu @ 23:38 JSTI was taking a look at the next Orange Islands episode I’ll be doing a comparison for and was reminded there was a chapter of that old Den-geki! Pikachu comic that adapted this episode. Well, I went to check in on what I already had up on the site about the series and it turns out...not much at all? In fact, my site’s coverage of the series kind of sucked...? So let’s fix that today. I’ve spent the last few weeks (and more money than I’d like to admit) to give the Dengeki! Pikachu section of the website a much, much needed makeover. I’ve completely rewritten the series introduction , added a page on author Toshihiro Ono , added summaries and trivia to the chapters that make up the first volume , and have posted comparisons between various versions of the series’ very first chapter ! There’s still a lot more work to do on this series but for now I think this is a pretty great start. Discuss this on Facebook | X (Twitter) | BMGf Episode Comparions: Pokémon Horizons Episodes 1-6 (Updated) March 8th, 2024 Dogasu @ 11:30 JSTAs I’m sure most of you are aware of by now, the first batch of Pokémon Horizons episodes dropped on Netflix in the U.S. yesterday morning. The version currently streaming in the U.S. is a lot less edited than what was added to the BBC iPlayer late last year and so I went back through the six comparisons I did back in December , did a few spot checks, and updated the write-ups accordingly. The version airing on Netflix in the U.S. is, for all intents and purposes, completely uncut. Footage from the Japanese opening and ending themes, the Dr. Friede end-of-episode segments, and the Next Episode Previews are still all missing, unfortunately, but the actual episodes themselves (well, the first six at least) don’t have anything cut from them. Let’s take a look at what all was changed in the Orange Islands episode " The Mystery Menace ." This episode didn’t have as many rewrites as some of its predecessors but the ones it does have are kind of interesting! I also use this episode to try to figure out who knows what, and when, in regards to where they’ll be spending the next episode because it’s quite different depending on what version of the show you’re watching! Discuss this on Facebook | X (Twitter) | BMGf CD Guide: Pocket Monsters Sword & Shield, Legends Arceus, Scarlet & Violet Soundtracks February 28th, 2024 Dogasu @ 23:00 JSTIf you’ve seen me posting about this over on X these last few days you already know this, but I’ve been adding the tracks lists to the soundtracks for Pocket Monsters Sword & Shield , Pokémon Legends Arceus , and Pocket Monsters Scarlet & Violet that all came out earlier this week to the CD Guide : There were 460 tracks across all three releases and I managed to transcribe, translate, and provide the composition / arrangement information for every single one. It was actually a pretty overwhelming amount of work! I did my best to make sure everything was as error-free as possible but if you spot anything then please let me know. Discuss this on Facebook | X (Twitter) | BMGf Pokémon Story: Chapter-by-Chapter Breakdown February 10th, 2024 Dogasu @ 11:16 JSTOver the last two years I’ve been diving into the old Japanese book Pokémon Story for a variety of updates . I’ve managed to translate over 100 pages of the book by this point and yet I’ve only really barely scratched the surface. I recently finished re-reading Pokémon Story and realized that hey, I don’t think anyone’s ever taken the time to actually document what all this book covers, and so for today’s update I present the Pokémon Story Chapter-by-Chapter Breakdown . As you can probably guess from the title alone, this chapter-by-chapter breakdown provides chapter and section titles, page numbers, and brief one-to-two-sentence summaries of what’s covered in each section. The idea is to provide a resource that makes it easier to determine what kind of coverage, if any, this 500+ page book provides for different aspects of the franchise. I have no plans of translating any more chapters of the book in this calendar year (my site’s 25th anniversary project is going to have to be my top priority) but I’ll be more than happy to hear your feedback on what sections you’d like to see translated in 2025 and beyond.
